Captain Tsubasa – 80

My first release post! (How nerve-wracking it is to get all the steps in releasing an episode right…)
This episode, Jiro’s all-repelling force field seems to be in full effect!

  1. Is it true that Captain Tsubasa was never officially released anywhere in the English speaking world, not even in the U.K.?

I can understand why the USA obviously never got it, given that country’s extreme hostility towards the sport…

  2. Hello.
    Thanks for your work!

There is small error in episode title.
Falkon – Nitta with his Falcon Shot!
Tsubasa is not Falcon, but Hawk.

  3. I mean that this episode’s right title is not
“The Field’s Falcon With Clipped Wings”
    but
“The Field’s Hawk With Clipped Wings”

  4. Well!
But first value (in google translate) for Taka is Hawk.
And the bird, when Tsubasa make his Drive Shot looks more as Hawk instead Falkon.
And at ep.60 you used Hawk for Tsubasa “Tsubasa! Be the Hawk of the Field!”
I only want to say, there is difference in these two words(birds).
I know that in english HAWK is used for many different predator birds.
But I think author mean different birds for Tsubasa and Nitta, and it is important moment, which term to use.
Nevertheless, I really appreciate your work. With some friends we use your translation for translating subtitles to our language.
Sorry for my bad english and many words.
    Best Regards.

Wikipedia isn’t reliable at the best of times, and as you mentioned “hawk” is used in English for many predator birds, and not only in English. Our translator has also explained to you that in Japanese there’s only one word for the birds of prey. It was my decision as the editor of the series to have the ep title as “The Field’s Falcon With Clipped Wings” as it sounds better than “The Field’s Hawk.”

I know that in Russian there is a difference between falcon and hawk, so you’re free to use whichever word you think suits you the best.

  6. As a long time Captain Tsubasa fan, I can safely say that Falcon suits better for Nitta and Hawk suits better for Tsubasa as it was used like this in every single translated Captain Tsubasa document I’ve seen so far. And also it’d have been better to use Hawk here for consistency rather than going with editor’s personal preferences. Best regards.
