Rest in Peace, CP!!

Can I please have a moment of everyone’s attention.

Today is a sad day for everyone in Saizen, as our friend and fellow fansubber CP passed away. CP had been struggling with bladder cancer since March this year. In August he got worse, and unfortunately isn’t with us anymore as of today.

I think everyone who had the opportunity to work with CP can agree that he was a person who always did his best to help out any way he could. Without CP there likely wouldn’t be any Miyuki, nor Yawara, having payed for all the DVDs and BDs, as well as helping out in the fansub process. Not only on these couple of series, however, but pretty much across all projects in Saizen, Live-Evil, and Orphan.

I didn’t know “CP” in person, but from my experience, having hung out with him on IRC for a few years, I could tell he was a really nice person, and always appeared to me as happy and optimistic. At least he got to make his trip to Japan last year that he really looked forward to.

CP will truly be missed. I wish I had something more to write, but I’ll just end by saying that both CP and his family will be in our thoughts. πŸ™

Rest in peace, CP!

  1. I’m in total shock.

I wish I knew CP better. I’m sorry that he has ultimately passed away. I’ll hoping that his family will find comfort in this tragic time.

    Β‘Vaya con Dios, CP! ;_;

  2. WTF!! Tell me this is a bad dream. πŸ™ CP was a really nice guy, a great friend (even though I never met him in person), and a skilled, hard working, and dedicated fansubber. I’m truly honored and humbled to have had the chance to get to know him and work with him on various fansub projects. I learned a lot from him, both fansubbing wise and about life in general. He was always so happy and upbeat. I honestly got a boost of energy from his positive nature. The world has lost a truly great person. I hope his soul rests in peace and watches over all who knew him. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who had the chance to get to know him. Thank you so very much for everything, CP. You will always be in our thoughts. I’m really going to miss talking with you, my friend. This is truly a sad day… πŸ™

  3. My heart has been shattered…

I truly regret not being able to ever meet up with him in person, there was nothing about him that you could hate. He was a humble, kind, friendly and hard working fellow.
As said before he was always trying to help out, even though I have not been around him as long as the others, I could feel his emission of kindness and hard work feeling our hearts like the sun warms us up in a cold windy day :(.

    Rest in peace CP!
For us you will never be dead, because we will always remember you our dear friend… πŸ™

  4. πŸ™ Fuck cancer.

This is a sad day in L-E history. CP was one of the real good ones, dedicated, friendly and always in a good mood.

I’m speechless. Rest in peace, CP.

  5. Jeez, this is brutal. Now I kind of feel bad about doing a request lately.

Regardless, send my condolences to the right people. You have benevolently touched people’s lives in direct and indirect ways, so may you rest in peace.

  6. I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s always a tragedy when someone we know passes on. The tears of strangers aren’t “mostly water.” They’re just as tangible, and their families grieve just as much as anyone else’s family.

  7. CP, man, you were such a fine person. I still can’t believe it. It’s the first thing i see after i come back from work, oh well, not a good sign. You were such a wonderful person, and someone i considered a monument in fansubbing.

You were such a fine man at that. Thanks for everything you did.

    RIP CP.

  8. “No man is an Iland, intire of it selfe; every man is a peece of the Continent, a part of the maine; if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the lesse, as well as if a Promontorie were, as well as if a Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.”

Nobody will forget you. Thank you so much.

    RIP CP

  9. I’m at a loss for words on hearing this.

Even though I haven’t gotten the opportunity to speak to him much save a couple of occasions, I found him to be a soft-spoken well-behaved person.

Thank you so much for all your hard work, CP. Rest in peace.

Such sad, sad news. We knew he’d been sick for a while but we’d hoped that the good news he had a few months back would stick and his condition would improve but alas, it looks like it wasn’t meant to be.

I unofficially adopted CP as my go-to Saizen QCer many moons ago because I could always count on him to be quick, reliable and catch all my mistakes, and he’d always be more than happy to have things fired at him at short notice in the unpredictable fashion I usually do when I work on any project >.> Everything was done with the minimum of fuss, often before I even had time to blink! And you’d never be able to tell that English was his second language even though he’d tell you in every QC he did, because his QCs were often better than those produced by natives.

But he was more than just a cog in the machine. He was a friend, he was a family member – infinitely kind, always chatty and with a boundless but understated enthusiasm for anime the like of which I don’t think I’ve ever seen in anyone else in all my countless years of subbing. We joked that he was the old man of fansubbing (only beaten in real years by collectr) but in real terms, he’s been taken far too young, and it’s going to take a while for it to sink in. I’ve been prodding Charady lately and I know there’ll come a moment soon where I send that batch to QC and I’ll have a sudden realization that there’s no CP to get absurdly overexcited about it anymore.

So with a heavy heart, I say goodbye, my friend, and rest in peace. We’ll try to carry on the work which brought you so much joy in your life that was cut so short.

  11. Oh no. This news broke my heart so bad…

CP you were always such a nice and positive guy who’d cheer everyone up. You were so reliable and serious about work that was inspiring.
Thank you for being there for us and for fansub world.

    Rest in peace dear friend.

  12. Jimi Hendrix once said: β€œI’m the one that’s got to die when it’s time for me to die, so let me live my life the way I want to.”

CP sure did live his life the way he wanted to. He soaked in as much anime as humanly possible. Anybody who knew him knew he loved the stuff. An addiction he couldn’t and didn’t wanna break.
I’ve struggled to find the words to say about this great mentor of mine. I still don’t have them and don’t think I ever will. So I’m going to leave one last quote that I think sums up about how we all feel:

β€œIf you gave someone your heart and they died, did they take it with them? Did you spend the rest of forever with a hole inside you that couldn’t be filled?”

CP, you have left a hole inside of all of us that’ll never be filled. Have fun in Valhalla, buddy. I’m sure you’re completing all the anime now. To honor you, I’m gonna take your spot on Charady. No matter how many years it takes, we’ll finish it for you.

  13. Jesus God, let this be a bad joke.

Makes me wish I worked harder on his projects if this is how things will happen…

  14. CP, you were larger than life itself. You always had a positive attitude right to the end! IRC will never be the same without you πŸ™

  15. This is the worst news ever. CP was very humble, kind, thoughful and respectful of others. And even with the news of cancer, he remained cheerful. I really did my best to help finish his projects, but unfortunately they were not. And I feel ashamed of that. I now hope there is a heaven and that CP will be able to rest in peace there, and that I will be allowed to pay my respects in his funeral.

CP, if your spirit lives, may you live in eternal peace.

  16. It’s amazing the amount of impact he had in so many fansub groups. Even if some of us never spoke with him personally his dedication to bring so many underrated shows that would never see that light in West is truly astounding. A lot of fans enjoy those fansubs but rarely pay attention to the amount of work, effort, and dedication put behind them by the group’s staff.

CP will still be remembered by not only those who worked besides him but by those who enjoyed the fruits of his labor.

I just want to say thank you CP and I hope you are finally getting some rest after such painful battle.

  17. @Kain: Yeah, one wouldn’t truly know how much time and effort actually goes into fansubbing, unless you actually get involved with the process yourself. I’ve worked with many subbers, well-known and not so well-known, in all my years of fansubbing. I can honestly say CP was one of, if not, the most hard working, reliable, and passionate subbers I have ever got to know and work with. I know I’m not the only subber who can attest to this. This goes to show you how truly great of a subber and person CP was. He will be sorely missed, but not forgotten, in the years to come. His legacy will continue to inspire and (re)motivate subbers for years to come.

  18. Next month will be the one year anniversary of the unexpected, tragic passing of our dear friend, CP. I was thinking some kind of special release or something would be great to honor his memory. Maybe a new release of Charady’s Daily Joke or some other project he was fond of and/or a big part of? I would definitely be willing to help out with this in any way that I can. It would be a great honor. So let me know, guys, if you think this is a good idea and want me to help out. Thanks. πŸ™‚

  19. September 8th of this year will mark the 3rd anniversary of our beloved friend and fansubbing comrade, CP. Man, time sure does fly. Probably around mach 5 or something. And just like the previous two years, I’m sure there will be some sort of tribute release on that day. I personally plan to be a part of that, in one way or another.
