  1. Looks like my prediction for an early 2014 finish to AnJ is accurate 😉 :p. This ep has me looking forward to more, and more, all the way until it’s over.

  2. So close! I hope it isn’t too much to hope Series 1 actually gets its last episode subbed within the next 12 months.

It’s also a bit eerie how close in tandem this fansub has gotten to Hox’s manga translation recently. It’s looking like 2014 might be a signature year for Anj in terms of English speaking fans.

    I like what you’re saying!~

Stopped watching somewhere around ep 50 so that I can marathon from the beginning when it’s all done. Gonna be soooo much fun when the time comes. Ashita no Joe is just about my favorite anime ever now. Keep up the good work Saizen.

  4. Wow, this show took an unexpected turn. Then again, that’s what I love about it. At times it has this dark, film noir like tone to it and you never know what to expect. There’s something about the time period you just can’t replicate nowadays.

Grass lot boxing, huh? I don’t quite figure what that is but it seems like poor Joe just sold himself to the circus? Made himself into a side show, anyway. Right? Damn, I wasn’t expecting that at all. Completely rock bottom.

  5. Oh, I get it. I looked it up. Apparently it was an actual thing, called tent boxing. It was most popular in Australia. It’s banned nowadays.

But it was unsanctioned boxing events where many of the fights were staged and the whole thing was promoted much the same way a circus was and all about showmanship.
